EGG was a sculptural work created to mark a friend’s 60th Birthday. The sculpture drew on her  understanding of the egg as a vital symbol in her personal history, and on its more general archetypal function as repository for growth, change, and transformation.

The work was constructed on-site near Smoky Lake AB, over a three-day period leading up to the celebration. At the event itself, attendees were asked to write wishes, prayers, blessings, or things they would like to release from their lives onto slips of paper, which were added to EGG.

The work was then floated on a dugout and ritually burned.  What was left after the burn was placed into a newly-dug bed, to serve as a frame for growing flowers and other plants.
